THE BEGINNINGS OF NIDO
For the first time, in late December 2021, we - Melli and Miguel - traveled to the Finca San Fernando in the Sierra Nevada. What we found up here in the high mountains was
a peaceful place. Beautiful nature. Healthy coffee plants on rolling hills. Surrounding sounds of birds.
Hard to imagine it hadn't always been like that ...

When Miguel was growing up he wasn't even allowed to visit his family's farm. 'Too dangerous!', his parents told him.
Since the farm is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains it happened to be in the middle of Colombia's conflict zone.

Miguel's uncle Fernando had been holding it all together, sometimes under unimaginable circumstances...
The one thing we learned very quickly on our first visit was the need for support. Fernando was more than ready for the new generation to step in with new ideas while preserving the old traditions.
And that's how Nido (span. nest) was born.
